Geek Out at WonderCon!
Love comic and all things geeky? You’ve probably heard of Comic Con. The convention’s smaller sister is WonderCon, which will be held on March 16-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you’re staying in one of the hotels near Disneyland, this is a great all-weekend event to attend to meet celebrities, attend panels and much more!
The convention will be held from 12-7pm on Friday, March 16, 10-7pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. Friday’s schedule includes TheOneRing.net Hobbit Movie Insider’s Preview featuring a panel of fan website creators and authors discussing rumors and movie surprises. In the late afternoon, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will make an appearance at the 21 Jump Street panel to discuss the upcoming action-comedy. Michael Emerson of “Lost” will also make an appearance at a television screening of the new show “Person of Interest.” There will also be programs on Superman, Spiderman and other popular topics.
Saturday’s special guests include Scott Snyder of Batman, Sir Ridley Scott (director of Alien I and Blade Runner), Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, 500 Days of Summer) and Emma Stone (Easy A, Superbad). Sony will have a large panel to promote its upcoming films Resident Evil: Retribution, Looper and The Amazing Spider-Man. Scott will be promoting his new film Prometheus with co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof. Many programs are also on breaking into the comics industry, writing, art and much more.
Sunday features panels on Marvel, steampunk, “Alcatraz”,” Fringe”, and “Once Upon a Time.” Longtime television writer Jane Espenson, who has written for numerous science fiction and fantasy shows, will also be holding a panel on her current web-series, Husbands. At the end of the day, WonderCon will end with a sing-along screening of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.
WonderCon is often held in San Francisco, but this year for the first time it will be held in the Anaheim Convention Center. Badges are $40 for all three days in advance and $20 for only Friday and Saturday. Sunday badges are only $10 in advance. Kids 13-17 and seniors get $5-$10 discounts. You can buy tickets here online.
