Those staying in hotels near Honda Center Anaheim this month have the opportunity to see a special new show: “How To Train Your Dragon, Live Spectacular.” Give the kids a break from the rides at Disneyland to see the enchanting dragons!
The dragons of the Academy Award-nominated DreamWorks 2010 movie come to life in this groundbreaking area tour. Kids and adults alike will be inspired, amazed and awed by this production of advanced technology and storytelling.
Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the story follows a young boy named Hiccup. He feels out of place in his Viking land of Berk. His father and classmates only care about fighting dragons and Hiccup doesn’t fit in. One day, he befriends an injured rare dragon. He names the dragon Toothless. Watch as their friendship soars to new heights and unites Vikings and Dragons in a battle save both their worlds.
Over 50 model makers, digital designers, scenic artists, engineers, fabricators and technicians worked together to bring the dragons of the show to life. The dragons walk, run, fly and breathe fire. They can also display facial features and impressively complex range of movement. Video and production design work together to transform the arena stage into a fantasy Viking world. Special effects and music also compliment the story.
The tour features 23 animatronic-puppet dragons performing live, some with wingspans up to 46 feet. There are also Viking warriors and world-class circus artists that will perform in a wall-to-floor projection measuring more than 20,000 square feet. It takes 30 semi-tractor trailer trucks to transport the show’s scenery, props, costumes, lighting, dragons and Vikings all across America.
